Sean P. Barbabella, physician to the president, wrote that Trump underwent the examination on May 26, 2026. The evaluation included a neurological exam and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, or MoCA, a 30-point screening tool used to detect mild cognitive impairment. Barbabella reported a score of 30 out of 30, which he described as within normal limits. Depression and anxiety screenings were also listed as normal.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">The memo said Trump, then 79, remained \u201cfully fit\u201d to carry out the duties of the office and characterized his cognitive and physical performance as excellent. The White House authorized public release of the summary.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Trump later described the result on social media as a perfect score on a \u201chigh difficulty\u201d test and as evidence of \u201cextreme intelligence.\u201d Medical specialists who developed or use the MoCA have said the instrument is not an intelligence test. A score of 26 or higher is generally considered normal; 30 indicates no impairment on that particular screen, not exceptional intellect or a comprehensive measure of judgment, impulse control or executive function under stress.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Presidential health reporting in the United States is not governed by a single mandatory standard. Administrations typically release physician summaries rather than complete medical records. Critics have argued that a brief screening and a White House-authored memo leave important questions unanswered and have called for independent review of full documentation. Supporters have treated the published score as confirmation that routine concerns about age-related decline are unfounded.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Experts note that repeated perfect scores on the same short instrument do not substitute for a full neuropsychological battery.
