**TROY, Mich. —** Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital locked down on the morning of March 20, 2025, after security reported gunfire in a parking garage at 7:08 a.m., prompting a multi-agency response and hours of uncertainty for patients and staff.
Troy police said a 25-year-old hospital employee from Troy was struck twice in the arm after another employee fired at least five shots from a handgun. Some rounds also struck a vehicle. The wounded man made his way to the emergency department and was later reported in stable condition. Police described the shooting as a targeted incident between two employees who knew each other and had recently had a falling-out, not a random attack on the hospital.
Staff activated emergency protocols as officers swept buildings and the garage. Nearby schools and day cares were placed on a soft lockdown. Patients arriving for appointments were turned away, and people inside the hospital sheltered in rooms and closets while waiting for word that the campus was clear.
Investigators used information from the victim and other sources to track the suspect to a home in Macomb Township. Shortly after 9:30 a.m., he left the residence after being contacted by phone and was taken into custody without incident. Corewell Health said later that morning that normal operations had resumed.
Hospital leaders and local officials offered counseling and support to employees and patients shaken by the scare. Police thanked assisting agencies and said charges would be sought. The episode underscored how quickly a workplace conflict can disrupt a hospital campus and why lockdown drills and coordinated public-safety responses remain central to restoring a sense of safety after such an incident.
